The UVM Foundation is now supporting two fundraising campaigns: SOAR: The Campaign for Student Success at UVM and SOLVE: The Campaign for Breakthrough Research at UVM. Together, these two initiatives will create a wave of powerful support across the University, helping UVM fulfill all aspects of its Amplifying Our Impact strategic vision.
Miller Professors Invested
The official titles of two more endowed UVM faculty members now bear the Miller name, bringing the number to four. Jennifer Laurent, Ph.D, APRN was invested as the inaugural Holly D. and Robert E. Miller Green and Gold Professor in Nursing Research, and Mary Val Palumbo, D.N.P., APRN was named the inaugural holder of the Holly D. and Robert E. Miller Green and Gold Professorship in Nursing Workforce Research in a rare double investiture ceremony on December 15.The two endowed faculty positions are part of the latest expression of the generosity and commitment of the late Bob Miller and his wife, Holly Miller, to improving the healthcare experience for patients and their families and to supporting the education, research, and clinical missions of the UVM College of Nursing and Health Sciences, UVM Larner College of Medicine, and the UVM Medical Center.

Firestone Building
In October 2022, UVM’s Larner College of Medicine celebrated the grand opening and dedication of the Dr. Frederick and Mrs. Bobbie Firestone Medical Research Building. Made possible by a leadership gift from Steven N. Firestone MD’69, who dedicated the building to his parents, the state-of-the-art biomedical research facility represents the university’s and college’s commitment to research excellence, student success, patient care, and community service. It will house about 250 faculty, staff, and students working in cardiovascular health, brain health, cancer, and lung disease. “My dad was such a dedicated physician. I don’t think he could be happier that there will be ongoing research for generations to come. If just one life-saving remedy or discovery is made, it will so justify all the support people have given the project,” said Firestone.
Catamount Challenge
The 7th-annual Catamount Challenge was one for the record books! In this year’s friendly fundraising competition among UVM athletic programs, 1,900 donors gave $477,159 in just one week—both all-time records! Nearly every team and program raised unprecedented amounts to support their student-athletes. The Men’s Lacrosse team took the top prize for most dollars raised ($148,321), and the Swimming and Diving program won for most alumni donors (114), each surpassing previous sums. Finally, the Track and Field & Cross-Country program tallied the most overall donors (651), the highest total in Catamount Challenge history for a single program. Thank you to all of the donors who participated—your support makes a real difference for our student-athletes!
The Bev Scholarship
Six UVM alumni have established an endowed scholarship to honor Beverly Belisle, longtime director of the Mosaic Center for Students of Color, in recognition of her tremendous service to the university. Recognized as one of the most dynamic and beloved leaders on campus, for two decades Bev has devoted her energies toward building a thriving, nourishing, safe campus community for students of color at UVM. The goal of this new scholarship fund is to embody Bev’s passion for students by providing important financial support so that students may attend UVM and develop their talents in our learning community, all the while creating a more equitable, welcoming, and diverse campus.
